Winter Season round up
In the Lockleaze Tuesday mixed league #taggers added a second title to their Autumn 2018 triumph in the Horfield Wednesday league. A strong finish to the match saw them pip Scum Tags in a tight final.
Star player Charlie Samuel was also awarded male player of the season. Ellie Courtney side-stepped her way through the season to take the female prize and become Rag Tags’ second player of the season.
Over in the Horfield Thursday mixed league the final had a familiar look to it as the tactical nous of Purple Cobras faced the pace and power of Rag Tugby for the third final in a row. Purple Cobras started strongly and never gave up their lead as they won a fourth consecutive title. Purple Cobras’ captain Matt Young injured his knee shortly before half time but hobbled to the pub to receive the male player of the season award. Sarah Herbert claimed the female prize having put in a string of increasingly impressive performances for semi-finalists Tagforce One.
We have 21 teams signed up over the Tuesday and Thursday leagues for the 10-week Spring Season. Three former league champions drop out in the shape of South Clifton Rabbitohs, Tag for Life and Tagformers. On Tuesdays two-time winners Tagi Tagi Rumba return alongside Taggy McTagface and new team Yippee-try-yey. On Thursdays new team Arb-barians enter the league with a few familiar faces joining the team.
The Lockleaze Tuesday mixed league is expanding to 14 teams. To accommodate the increased demand Lockleaze Sports Centre have managed to find us some space for an extra match. Early in the season this will take place on the 4G pitch with a later kick-off of 21:00. As the light gets better the extra match will move to non-floodlit grass pitches with earlier kickoffs. The league will take the structure of a partial round robin before moving to playoffs and a grand final.
Horfield Thursday mixed league will be contested by 7 teams. Because of this here will be a friendly match every week at 19:45 for anyone to join. The league will take a similar structure to previous seasons. The first week will be a set of friendly fixtures before moving into the league proper with each team playing against all the other teams. The last two weeks will be semi-finals and finals.
This season we are hoping to train up some new male and female referees in preparation for the larger Summer Seasons. If you would like to give it a go get in touch with us for more details at email@example.com!
