After an exciting return to Try Tag Rugby tournaments in 2021 we are excited to launch our full events calendar for 2022.
Our first events of the year will be the Great Britain Trials to be held at the beginning of March. For the first time this year the National Programme will run its first trial outside of the capital with players from the North, the Midlands and the West Country encouraged to converge on Coventry on Sunday 6th March before London and Thames Valley players trial in London a week later on Sunday 13th March.
Our first one day competition of the year is our Spring Tag Rugby Tournament on Saturday 2nd April 2022 at Richmond Athletics Ground in London. This annual event running since 2014 has seen sell-outs at the last three iterations in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Moving to the most recent venue of our first ever 100 team tournament, TagFest London 2021, allows us to increase capacity to 80 teams and facilitate all levels of the game.
The UK Try Tag Rugby Tag Nationals moves forward in the calendar to Saturday 21st May and will take place in West Yorkshire for the first time ever as the different regions battle it out in mixed, men’s and women’s competitions to see who is crowned the UK National Champions! The changes to the flagship event in the elite game have been made to facilitate better continuity between the regional sides and Great Britain as well as to improve access for regional players. Stay tuned to our social media for more exciting updates to come about UK Tag Nationals 2022.
The TagFest™ Series continues after a record breaking 2021. The TagFest™ Series consists of multiple Tag Rugby tournaments running throughout the UK all with the same theme; a day of Tag Rugby with a festival atmosphere and a massive after-party. In 2022 Wigan will kick off the TagFest™ series for the first time followed by tournaments taking place in regions including London, Bristol, Coventry & Warwickshire, Thames Valley and Yorkshire.
TagFest™ London has been moved back in the calendar to Saturday 16th July 2022 and switches venues to King’s House Sports Ground in Chiswick. Unfortunately the later Jubilee bank holiday this June meant that we were unable to secure the same date and venue as last year but we have a raft of announcements to come which we are confident will see this year’s TagFest™ London be the best yet!
The British & Irish Cup returns to the UK on the 3rd and 4th September and like it’s feeder tournament, the UK Tag Nationals, will take place in West Yorkshire for the first time as the Great Britain sides look to wrest the trophy back from Ireland once again. This will be the second opportunity for international competition for our Great Britain sides with the International Tag Series taking place at the University of Limerick, Ireland on the 4th-6th August – just one year before the Tag World Cup takes place at the same venue.
We also have numerous social events including our River Thames Birthday Boat Party (Saturday 10th September), group trips to watch matches at the London 7s and the Rugby League World Cup, before rounding off the year with Christmas Parties in all regions.
We hope you’ll join us at some or all of our events in 2022 as we look towards a trailblazing year in the development of the game.
