Great Britain Tag Rugby World Cup Train-On Squads Announced

by | Apr 11, 2018 | Great Britain Tag Rugby, Uncategorised

Great Britain Tag Rugby is pleased to announce the 2018 Tag World Cup train-on squads.

Initially, 28-player train on squads were due to be announced but following the highly competitive trials, coaches agreed to extend squads to 30 players to allow more players the opportunity to impress.

Players in the train on squads will have eight training sessions, which includes the high level London Origin Series (19th May) to impress the coaching staff before cuts are made to reduce the squads to 22 on Monday 2nd July.

Great Britain will be represented at the 2018 Tag World Cup in four divisions; men’s open, mixed open, ladies seniors (27+) and men’s seniors (30+).

GB World Cup Programme Director, Phillip Browne said: “The standard at the open trials this year was our highest ever, with the improvement in playing standards evident across the board as the player pool has continued to increase.

“The coaching staff had a long deliberation meeting after the last trial on Sunday (8th April), which lasted for over three hours, and some very tough decisions were made in selecting their best and most committed players to represent the Great Britain Tag community at the 2018 World Cup.”

Congratulations to all the players selected in the train-on squads. The hard work will start on Sunday. All players will be emailed shortly with further details.

Commiserations to the trialists that missed out on selection. For those of you who have missed out on selection, there will be more opportunities to represent Great Britain in future years. There is also more representative opportunities this year in the way of London Origin (19th May) and the inaugural UK Nationals tournament (15th Sept TBC).
