London Tag Rugby Championships – All you need to know

We look forward to welcoming you at the 2018 London Championships on Saturday 30th June. We hope you’re looking forward to a great day of Tag Rugby and would ask that you please read all the contents below prior to arrival.

Venue

The 2018 London Champs is being played at Twyford Avenue Sports Ground (W3 9QA) in Acton. The ground is walkable from Ealing Common, Acton Town & West Acton stations with NO parking available in the grounds at Twyford Avenue but its surrounding roads have free parking over the weekend. There are designated male and female changing facilities, toilets & shower rooms available. Please remove your rugby boots before entering the changing rooms.

Arrival

Players should arrive between 09.30 and 10:00. Team registrations need to be completed by 10.15am, 45 minutes prior to the first kick-off.

There will be First Aiders in attendance on the day, please note, at this stage, there will not be a complimentary physio on site.

Health & Safety

Saturday is going to be HOT. Please make sure you bring a refillable water bottle with you and remain hydrated throughout the day. Please bring sun screen with you and take advantage of the shade whenever possible. We will have a huge marquee with open sides, tables and chairs for teams to remain as cool as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

No alcohol is allowed to be consumed whilst still competing in the tournament.

  • NO ALCOHOL IS TO BE BROUGHT IN FROM OUTSIDE THE VENUE
  • BAG SEARCHES WILL BE CONDUCTED ON ENTRY AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY
  • ANY ALCOHOL FOUND BEING BROUGHT TO THE VENUE WILL BE PERMANENTLY REMOVED BY SECURITY

Surface

The surface at Wasps is grass. Trainers or rugby/football boots with blades are the recommended footwear. Boots with metal studs will not be permitted for play. Please consider recent weather conditions when selecting your footwear.

Fixtures Format

Team captains will receive a welcome envelope outlining the format of the day and other necessary information.

Team Captains: If your squad needs extra players of either gender, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing info@trytagrugby.com.

After Party

We are excited to be hosting an after party like no other Try Tag Rugby Tournament to date.  Please support our London Champs Partners and don’t forget, you can invite friends to join – there is no cost to do so, the bigger the party, the more fun we all have. We’ll have a DJ into the night, plus Bucking Bronco, Gladiator Joust, Garden Games, Beer Pong Tables and more.

The bars will close at 12 midnight, with the DJ playing until 12:30am, the venue will close at 1am.

Team Photos

Make sure you get your team photo on the main stage – your time allocation will be listed on your captain’s envelope.

We’ll also be taking photos throughout the day which will all be uploaded to our social media channels soon after the event.

Playing Kit

International Tag Federation approved Tag Rugby shorts or Tag Rugby tights are compulsory for play.

We will be selling approved black Tag Rugby shorts for £12, short length black tights for £23 and mid length tights for £26 at the ground on Saturday.

You can also pre-order official Try Tag Rugby shorts & tights via our newly designed online shop, www.trytagrugbyshop.com.

When ordering items in our online shop, please choose to pick them up at the venue.

The only other brands of shorts/tights we allow are those which meet International Tag Federation approval such as Oztag, Oztag Equipment Supplies (OES), NZ Tag Football and the Irish Tag Rugby Association.

If your shorts/tights do not have these logos or the Try Tag Rugby logo on them, you will not be able to wear them on Saturday at the tournament!

Tag Rugby shorts will also be available to hire for £4 for the duration of the tournament.

Try Tag Rugby Retail Marquee

On the day we’ll have a number of Try Tag Rugby and OES Tag shorts and tights available in many different designs, along with replica match balls and TTR caps and snapbacks.

The retail marquee will accept card payments ONLY and be open from 09.30 and throughout the day, closing after prize giving.

Limited Edition 2018 London Championships Tag Rugby Shorts & Tights

These can be pre-purchased via our online shop until 13:30 on Thursday 28th, www.trytagrugbyshop.com and if not sold out in advance, they will be available on the day at the Try Tag Rugby merchandise marquee.

Food & Refreshments

We will have a number of food outlets on the day starting with bacon butties and coffee for the morning with BBQ, Burritos, Kebabs and Salad Bar available throughout the afternoon and evening.

Our Partners Hop Stuff Brewery will be serving cold beer by the pint and in cans, Firkin Cider will be serving cider by the pint and the London Cocktail Company serving cocktails almost by the pint. These will all be located at the players village by the stage and next to the clubhouse. If you have any specific dietary requirements – you are encouraged to bring your own food.

Additional Partners

We are also excited to have tournament partners My Friend Charlie onsite, our GB singles events Partner and London Champs Entertainment Partner – join them on the Bucking Bronco, Gladiator Joust, Garden Games, Beer Pong Tables and more. Are you single ? Let them know early in the day as they will be doing prizes for best playing singles throughout the tournament.

Stoke Travel will be joining us to share the Try Tag Rugby Oktoberfest trip later in the year and the Red Bull Ladies will be onsite to make sure you get that necessary kick later in the day.

PSS International Removals will also be joining us to award the referee of the tournament and five bottles of Prosecco to the best turned out fancy dressed team – remember the theme this year is London Underground.

Payment

All teams should be fully paid for the event before taking to the pitch on Saturday.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you also have any outstanding personal debts with Try Tag Rugby, please make sure to clear these before Saturday. Players with outstanding debts will not be eligible to take part in the tournament until these debts are cleared!
