The UK based South African national team (TagBoks UK) will take part in Try Tag Rugby’s UK Tag Nationals tournament this year.
TagBoks UK will enter a mixed team and it will be the first time that a team outside of Try Tag Rugby’s regions will take part in the annual tournament. Held for the first time in 2018, the UK Tag Nationals brings together teams from each of the different Try Tag Rugby regions around the UK to battle it out to see which region will be crowned the UK Tag National Champions.
Each year Try Tag Rugby will invite one regional team to enter the UK Tag Nationals from a member nation of the International Tag Federation (ITF). With international travel currently difficult, the logical first guest team was TagBoks UK, who have been entering multiple Try Tag Rugby tournaments and leagues this year in preparation for entering the 2023 Tag World Cup.
“This concept of invitational teams already exists in other countries and other regional sports tournaments. Introducing it to the UK Tag Nationals is in keeping with it being an event where the best players take part and get the chance to test themselves against some of the best players in their sport.”Tournament Director Carl Duckels
