Toronto Wolfpack and Try Tag Rugby are proud to confirm an exciting 30-team ‘Wolfpack Tag Rugby Tournament’. The event will take place at the relocated Toronto Wolfpack Vs Halifax RLFC fixture at New River Sports in North London, UK, on Saturday 28th April.
Toronto Wolfpack General Manager – Commercial, Scott Lidbury commented:
“The Try Tag Rugby tournament will form an integral part of the Wolfpack’s community engagement in London around our match against Halifax. In working with key stakeholders to create a Festival of Rugby we hope to target, and convert, rugby fans of all ages as well as use our profile as a club to grow the game of rugby.
“We know ‘Flag Football’ enjoys enormous popularity across North America, and our ultimate goal is to introduce a Tag Rugby programme for all ages to Toronto this season.”
A short exhibition Tag Rugby match also will take place on the field of play at New River Stadium, between a Canadian select team and an English select team. Two members of the Toronto Wolfpack who are not involved in the match squad are expected to compete in the showcase event.
Toronto Wolfpack Director of Rugby, Brian Noble MBE, will be on hand to present awards to winning teams and individuals after the conclusion of the tournament.
Try Tag Rugby CEO, Phillip Browne, added:
“I’ve been following the Toronto Wolfpack closely, and the club made some amazing strides both on and off the pitch in 2017. When the opportunity presented itself to align our brand with such an innovative and progressive club as the Wolfpack, who are as passionate about rugby participation as we are, it was a no brainer.
“We look forward to hosting a tournament which will give our players a fantastic day out as they play in the tournament, before witnessing the Wolfpack’s exciting brand of Rugby from the stands.
“All our participants will receive a ticket to the game as part of their tournament entry. We hope this extra support will help the Wolfpack to pack the stands, and create a brilliant atmosphere for what should be a great game!”
