Try Tag Rugby are pleased to announce the launch of a brand new region which will begin operations in Bristol imminently.
Try Tag Rugby, the Rugby Football League’s (RFL) Tag Rugby League partner, is the UK delegate to the International Tag Federation (ITF) and currently operates in London, Manchester, the Thames Valley and Yorkshire and are pleased to be expanding into another new region this year, Bristol.
Tag Rugby is a fun and exciting non-contact social sport suitable for adults; no previous rugby experience is necessary; it’s a sport that can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced players alike and is proving really popular!
Irrelevant of age, gender or experience level, and with Bristol having large numbers of contact rugby players, this is a great way for ex-players, player’s partners, current players and people that can’t commit to training twice a week and playing on weekends to still get a rugby ball in their hands and have a run around.
The Bristol franchise is going to be run by James Hawken (pictured), John Cameron & Gus Hamilton, all practising doctors.
James Hawken and James Cameron both played in the Hampstead league in the past and since moving to Bristol have been missing their Tag fix!
This region will start with a mixed league on Thursday evenings at Clifton Downs (corner of Stoke Road & Upper Belgrave Road).
Free Taster Sessions will be held at Clifton Downs on Thursday, 3rd May and Thursday, 10th May, with both starting at 7pm.
The league start date is as follows:
Clifton Downs (Thursdays) – 17th May
Tag Rugby is a very social sport and a great way to meet new people as well as a chance to meet up with existing friends. The league in Bristol will come with a great after match venue to host Try Tag Rugby weekly post-match socials, where players come together to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat with their team mates and opposition.
Try Tag Rugby CEO, Phillip Browne commented, “We’re delighted to be launching in Bristol in 2018 and are looking to continue our expansion in 2018 with one more region set to be announced soon.”
“We believe we’ve found some great operators with good business acumen who will adhere to the fun, welcoming and social ethos of Try Tag Rugby and represent us admirably.”
Registration for the taster sessions and the league are now open for individuals, groups and teams. If signing up as an individual or group, Try Tag Rugby will put players into a team.

What is Tag Rugby?
Tag Rugby is a minimal contact team game in which each player wears shorts with velcro patches with two tags attached to them. The mode of play is similar to Rugby League or Touch Rugby with attacking players attempting to dodge, evade and pass a rugby ball while defenders attempt to prevent them scoring by “tagging” – pulling a velcro attached tag from the ball carrier. Seven players in each team are allowed on the field at a time, whilst the field dimensions are 70m by 50m. The attacking team has six plays or tags to try to score a try or take the ball down field as close to the line as possible. Tries are worth one point and there are no conversions. In mixed Tag Rugby, female tries are worth two points.
