Following the success of the Men’s 40s category at the recent UK Tag Nationals, Great Britain Tag Rugby are excited to announce the formation of a Great Britain Men’s 40s side.

This announcement comes in collaboration with the Irish Tag Rugby Association who will also be fielding a Men’s 40s side at the forthcoming International Tag Series in Limerick on the 5th-6th August 2022. Both sides will then play a three test, exhibition series at the 2022 British & Irish Cup in Leeds (3rd-4th September) before looking ahead to the 2023 Tag World Cup taking place at the University of Limerick in August 2023.

Expressions of interest to be selected to play are open now. Please register your interest here before 12pm Monday 20th June 2022 to be considered for selection. Experience in the recent UK Tag Nationals is desirable but not essential. Players do not need to have turned 40 already, they simply need to turn 40 on or before the 31st December 2023, inline with International Tag Federation rules for Tag World Cup competition.

Applications for the positions of Great Britain Men’s 40s Head Coach and Great Britain Men’s 40s Assistant Coach are also open. Should you wish to be considered for either role please email Will Shepherd (willshepherd@trytagrugby.com) detailing your experience and qualifications relevant to the role and any other appropriate details by 5pm Friday 17th June 2022.

Adding a seventh category to the Great Britain Tag Rugby family is a positive step in the growth of of the sport within the United Kingdom and one that we hope will bring further success for the national programme. As the Tag Rugby playing community continues to expand and develop it is part of the long-term vision of Great Britain Tag Rugby to add further 40s sides in the Mixed and Women’s categories.
