Try Tag Rugby is delighted to announce The Eagles Foundation, the non-profit arm of Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club, has been awarded its Try Tag Rugby South Yorkshire Licence.
The Licence, which includes the current Try Tag Rugby Sheffield Leagues, will see The Eagles Foundation take over the running of the current Sheffield leagues and the future development of the region after the current Spring Season. As part of this change, the existing Try Tag Rugby Sheffield area will be renamed Try Tag Rugby South Yorkshire.
The renamed Try Tag Rugby South Yorkshire will be running two leagues this summer, with the first of two 10-week, weekly leagues starting on Tuesday 23rd April at Forge Valley School. The second 10-week, weekly league will be starting on Thursday 25th April at King Edwards School.
The two mixed adult leagues are for people of all genders and are open for registration to teams as well as individuals who will be placed on a team. A couple of Free Taster Sessions will be taking place in the run up to the start of the leagues on the Tuesday 9th April at Forge Valley School and Thursday 18th April at King Edwards School for people to Give Tag A Try!

Tag Rugby is a fun and exciting minimal contact social sport suitable for all adults, no previous rugby experience is necessary and it’s a sport that can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced players alike.
Playing Tag Rugby is a great way to meet new people, as well as a chance to meet up with existing friends. There will be weekly post-match socials, where players come together to enjoy a drink with their teammates and opposition.
Former England and Great Britain Rugby League International Women’s player Andrea Dobson, who is a development officer at the Eagles Foundation will be taking a leading role in developing the Try Tag Rugby South Yorkshire leagues said: “We’re delighted to be awarded the Try Tag Rugby licence. It’s an exciting form of rugby league offering great playing and social opportunities and will only further propel the growth of rugby league in South Yorkshire”.

The quality of people involved in the Eagles Foundation and their progressive and forward-thinking approach to increasing the opportunities for people to get active and enjoy playing sport is something we have been impressed by. We are excited to have them joining our growing network of Licensees and believe they will enable the area to reach its full potential and build on the good work that has been done on developing the leagues since they were started in 2021.”
League Registration
Registration for the league is now open for individuals, groups, and teams. If signing up as an individual or group, Try Tag Rugby will put other individual players together to create a full team.
Free Tag Rugby Taster Sessions
Give Tag Rugby a Try before committing to a league by attending a Tag Rugby Taster Session on Tuesday 9th April or Thursday 18th April. These fun and friendly 1hr sessions are perfect for players of all genders, sporting abilities and Rugby experience levels, including complete Rugby novices.
Refereeing
Try Tag Rugby are also looking to recruit additional referees in the area. Refereeing Tag Rugby is lots of fun and can be a great way to earn some extra money. All genders and levels of refereeing experience are welcome, if you would like to get involved as a referee, please contact southyorkshire@trytagrugby.com.
A Free Referees workshop will be taking place Saturday 20th April from 10am-1pm at Forge Valley School.
