Try Tag Rugby is pleased to announce that a new league in Manchester will be launching this summer.
The Manchester league successfully launched in summer 2017, which was played at Mancunians Sports Club in Chorlton, with the new expansion league set to take place at the East Manchester Academy (60 Grey Mare Lane, M11 3DS), which is just south of the Etihad stadium, on Tuesday evenings.
The East Manchester Academy has got great facilities including full changing rooms onsite and is easily accessible from Manchester city centre with good train, tram and bus links. The summer leagues at this venue will be played on the grass surface Rugby pitches before moving to the 3G pitches for the non-summer seasons and playing under floodlights.
Try Tag Rugby, the Rugby Football League’s (RFL) Tag Rugby League partner and the UK delegate to the International Tag Federation (ITF), in addition to expanding a second league in Manchester, will also be launching the inaugural Manchester Tag Rugby Championships (one day tournament – details coming soon) in 2018 to celebrate the growth of the region, with teams expected to take part from London, the Thames Valley and Yorkshire.
Tag Rugby is a fun and exciting non-contact social sport suitable for adults; no previous rugby experience is necessary; it’s a sport that can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced players alike.
Try Tag Rugby Manchester Operations Manager Carl Duckels said: “We were impressed to see such a positive response to launching in Manchester last year and we’re delighted to be expanding our operations in this great city in 2018”
“Tag Rugby is a great social sport and it’s a fantastic way to meet new people. It’s very inclusive and it doesn’t discriminate against age, gender or experience levels. Playing Tag Rugby you’re likely to improve your fitness, have loads of fun and make a bunch of new friends. With Manchester being the UK’s 3rd largest city, we’re happy to be increasing our offering and getting more people of the city of Manchester involved in this already popular sport in other areas of the country”.

What is Tag Rugby?
Tag Rugby is a minimal contact team game in which each player wears shorts with velcro patches with two tags attached to them. The mode of play is similar to Rugby League or Touch Rugby with attacking players attempting to dodge, evade and pass a rugby ball while defenders attempt to prevent them scoring by “tagging” – pulling a velcro attached tag from the ball carrier. Seven players in each team are allowed on the field at a time, whilst the field dimensions are 70m by 50m. The attacking team has six plays or tags to try to score a try or take the ball down field as close to the line as possible. Tries are worth one point and there are no conversions. In mixed Tag Rugby, female tries are worth two points.
