International Tag Series set to take place in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in 2022.

In July, the International Tag Federation (ITF) announced the postponement for the second time of the Tag World Cup, Limerick, Ireland 2022. The postponed Tag World Cup will still be hosted by the University of Limerick and the Irish Tag Rugby Association in August 2023.

In understanding that many international players had been selected for the Tag World Cup 2021 and have been patiently waiting to represent their country, the ITF have developed a unique event that takes Covid-19 travel restrictions into account whilst giving players international competition.

“The event was the brain child of Australian ITF Board member Bill Harrigan. It will see the International Tag Series played in three different areas of the World. The ITF is extremely excited to unveil the tournament & the logo that will be on proud display in Europe, Australia and New Zealand at the same time as the postponed Tag World Cup would have been played.”

Stuart McConnell (ITF Chairman)

“We just don’t know when overseas travel will open up so this tournament will allow all our international players the opportunity to represent their Heritage countries safely within Australia, New Zealand & Ireland.  All the players who were selected for the original TWC 2021 will finally get the opportunity to wear their jersey & play.”

Bill Harrigan (GM Australian Oztag, ITF Board Member)

“This is an exciting announcement for Great Britain Tag Rugby and the International Tag Federation to be able to make. Our players and coaches have shown immense dedication since their return to training this year. With the Tag World Cup postponed to 2023 the International Tag Series is a great event to have in its place and will make all their efforts worthwhile. Great Britain is looking forward to getting back onto the pitch with our friends and rivals from across the Tag world once again.”

Will Shepherd (Great Britain Programme Director)

Event dates for International Tag Series

Europe – University of Limerick, Ireland 5th-7th August 2022

Great Britain will play Ireland in the British & Irish Cup on 23rd-24th October 2021, in Limerick, Ireland.
