Your chance to play at St. James’ Park Stadium

by | Jan 22, 2020 | Bristol, Coventry & Warwickshire, Leagues, London, Manchester, News, Thames Valley, Wigan, Yorkshire

This year’s Super League Dacia Magic Weekend will be taking place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of May at Newcastle United’s famous St. James’ Park Stadium.

Our friends at Betfred Super League have invited Try Tag Rugby to take part in the event by providing the amazing opportunity to play on the iconic pitch, in front of tens of thousands of people, at half-time of Leeds v Hull FC on Saturday of the weekend extravaganza!

It might be a different shaped ball but running out to play on the St. James’ Park pitch, the same pitch that Newcastle legends like Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan have graced, is a rare opportunity and something you are unlikely to forget in a hurry.

In addition, Super League have also offered Try Tag Rugby discounted tickets for both Saturday (£15 instead of £25) and whole weekend tickets (£24 instead of £40).

Match schedule:
Saturday 23rd May
3.00pm – Castleford Tigers v Catalans Dragons
5.15pm – St Helens v Salford Red Devils
7.30pm – Leeds Rhinos v Hull FC

Sunday 24th May
12.30pm – Huddersfield Giants v Toronto Wolfpack
2.45pm – Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves
5.00pm – Wakefield Trinity v Hull KR

Play on the pitch!

We will have the whole pitch available to us during the half-time of Leeds v Hull and we are therefore going to run two mixed Tag Rugby games. This gives plenty of opportunity for you to get involved with the first 40 people (20 males and 20 females) who buy either a Saturday or weekend ticket from Try Tag Rugby for the event being given the opportunity to take part in the games. When buying your tickets please make sure you select the ‘Ticket and Play’ link below.

Please note the chance to play on the pitch is subject to the following conditions:

  • You must have played in a Try Tag Rugby League in at least two seasons within the last 12 months.
  • We reserve the right to refuse you the chance to play on the pitch if you have had any previous disciplinary issues in a Try Tag Rugby League or event.

Friendly Games

All players will be required to meet at the stadium at 11:30am on Saturday 23rd May to collect their ticket. We will then head to a local park to play some friendly games from 12 midday to 1:30pm. These games will only be for players who will be playing on the St. James’ Park pitch later and will give players the opportunity to meet the rest of the team and to have a run out together before the exhibition games. The exact location for the friendly games will be advised closer to the time, however it is envisaged the pitches will be within a short walking distance from St James Park Stadium. After the games, players will be free to head back to the stadium to watch the top-class action on offer from the Super League Dacia Magic Weekend. The first Magic Weekend game on Saturday, between Castleford Tigers and Catalans Dragons, starts at 15:00.
